What made up the 97% of domestic travel’s contribution to tourism revenue in 2016?

By Olukayode Kolawole The data presented in the recently published hospitality report on the Nigerian hospitality sector by Jumia Travel has finally cleared the air on the argument that Nigeria doesn’t have enough tourist destinations to attract people’s interest to spend their holidays in the country instead of traveling to some popular holiday destinations abroad.

THE NIGERIAN DOWNTIME; THE WAY FORWARD by Adelakun Adedolapo

The present economic and political situations in the country are reasons why many Nigerians, especially the poor have said that the current administration of Buhari is inappropriate for the country because its policies are stringent, lopsided and relies heavily on the war against corruption.

WHY I AM CORRUPT (Quite Revealing)

Written by Ayo Sogunro
Nigerians are corrupt, they say. I am a Nigerian and I know why I am corrupt...
I am corrupt because I am hungry. Because I need the food, the whole food and nothing but the food. Because I have to “hustle” if I want to see the food. Because without food I amuse less, to myself and to society. A hungry man has no principles; morality is a luxury affordable to the well-fed.

Fixing economy without fixing monopolies: Mission Impossible

by Tabia Princewill
All our talk of reforms, no matter the administration, never seem to quite tackle the root causes of issues, dancing instead on the periphery, latched on to the hypocritical desire to appear to perform rather than dealing with problems decisively.

There Is A Big Conspiracy Going On With Boko Haram

by Dr. Peregrino Brimah
While the Federal government of Nigeria has repeatedly announced that Boko Haram no longer holds on to any territory in Nigeria, the commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), David Rodriguez in March this year challenged that claim. Boko Haram "does own some significant territory in northern Nigeria," Rodriguez told the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington.

Hardship On The Increase: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Nigerians across social strata are terribly feeling the pains of the biting economic crunch. No one is left out, even the richest man in Nigerian, Dangote, lost some huge Billions recently.

To say that Nigerians are literally buckling under the excruciating weight of the economic recession which has made life very difficult for many is certainly stating the obvious.

Avoiding Investments That Are Too Good To Be True

Author of Practical Steps to Financial Independence and personal finance coach, Usiere Uko, writes on pyramid and Ponzi schemes, which are coming back in Nigeria.

They come and go, lie low for a season and then come back again; investment schemes that promise rates of return way above money market rates. While conventional rates are per annum, they promise returns at rates per month, per quarter etc. You get to double your money in a year or less. You make more money when you bring in more people. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

WHO IS YOUR NEXT OF KIN?

by Odunjo Olusanya Kehinde
A Next of Kin according to Advanced leaner’s Dictionary is "One’s closest living relation or relations."

At the point of entry into any organization, opening of bank account (savings, current or fixed deposit), a Retirement Saving Account (RSA) with any Pension Fund Administration (PFA) or filling any form for any transactions anywhere in the world a next of kin details will be required but most people do not know the importance of this requirement so they give any name and details just to get such transactions done.

INTERESTING | Heirs Of Harmony

by Sarumi Lukman Oluwapelumi
Veraciously an heir is what every man wishes for before the journey to the land of no return, if gone family heritage, culture and history cease to exist. Sustaining ancestral pedigree lingers on the heart of an elder without a heir. However in the quest of seeking divine interference, recitations are offered solely for the good and upright offspring.

Northern Nigeria Experiences Rise In Islamist Fanatic Killings

by Dr. peregrino Brimah
The rise in mob religiously mis-inspired killings in north Nigeria cannot be overlooked. From Zamfara to Abuja. From Kano to Kaduna, there have been news reports of intolerant killings of Christians and Muslim minorities by zealous misguided youth and even state actors. While outspoken, illuminated Muslim scholars like Imam Murtada Muhammad Gusau have in clear terms preached against the gross violations by those who take lives against Islamic rule, the erring killers continue unfettered and unbothered.

THE CHANGE WE VOTED FOR?

by Sanya Oni
Is this the change we voted for? Yes it is!That was Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman’s riposte to the growing street broadsides in the aftermath of the vicious storms that have devastated the nation’s socio-economic landscape while turning most households destitute. That the response took some 1,700 words would seem to suggest the extent to which the deeply the anguished cries of Nigerians have managed to penetrate the thick, legendary impervious walls of the villa.

LOL! Economic Issues: Summer Travellers shun US and UK... opt for their villages

I laughed but this is not funny at all, the economy is really biting. It now costs about N2m to travel from Lagos to America? Hmmm...we're still hoping for the best:

The drop in the value of Naira is forcing summer travellers to explore other alternatives, leaving local tourist resorts smiling all the way to the bank and airline operators suffocating.

THE CHANGE I HAVE NOTICED

by Olalekan Adetayo
The present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari came with a promise of change which is the slogan of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress. Over one year after coming on board, there have been heated debates on whether the change is here or not. Most of the debates have been centred on what has become to be known in the nation’s political lexicon as dividends of democracy.

Many Who Voted For Buhari Are Now Complaining...but what is the way forward?

Audu Maikori, the president of Chocolate City, is one of the politically conscious Nigerians in the entertainment industry. Has just shared his opinion the CHANGE we are experiencing today:
I have been reading up on some staunch PMB supporters recanting and apologizing for supporting Buhari... I recall during the elections last year people Called me all sorts of names and labeled me anti patriotic because of my post about why I would support Jonathan in 2015.

Endorsing Hillary Clinton By Reuben Abati

Read his piece below...
If there was any hope that Donald Trump would change tactics and be more restrained after winning the Republican party Presidential nomination for the November 8 US election, that hope is now lost. The fellow has remained aggressive, incorrigibly brash and completely negative. Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson has asked: “Is Donald Trump just plain crazy?” (August 1). Robinson says he is “increasingly convinced,” and that Trump’s “grasp on reality appears to be tenuous at best.”

Women, How To Save Yourself From Getting Cancer

by Rotimi Adesanya
Two years ago, I wrote about my choice to have a preventive double mastectomy. A simple blood test had revealed that I carried a mutation in the BRCA1 gene. It gave me an estimated 87 per cent risk of breast cancer and a 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer.

“I lost my mother, grandmother and aunt to cancer. I wanted other women at risk to know about the options. I promised to follow up with any information that could be useful, including about my next preventive surgery, the removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes.” —Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery.

The whys of our underdevelopment II by Adelakun Adedolapo and Atoyebi Taofeek

The highbinders and the exploited followers. The present economic crisis, corruption, insecurity, and other related malpractices in Nigeria have grown higher than the height of mountain Kilimanjaro as the outcries of Nigerians reveal.
